CAA Seattle invites you to a Zoom presentation entitled American English Accent and Speech Rhythm Acquisition with fellow alumna Sofia Zieve (MS, 1985).

My name is Sofia Zieve and I am a native American English speaker. I have a passion for languages and cultures, and people from everywhere. I speak Spanish, Portuguese, and a smattering of other languages, and have experienced first-hand the challenge of making myself clearly understood.

American English speech has its own rhythm. Just as music has various notes…high and low, long and short, fast and slow, crescendos and pauses, so does the spoken English language. In our presentation I will teach you how to recognize some American stress patterns within words, and stress patterns within sentences. Speaking with the ”music” of  American English will enable you to be understood more clearly.

Please have a rubber band handy.  This will be low-key, relaxed, and fun!
