Columbia Connects: Dinner with 12 Strangers

We are thrilled to announce that our first alumni dinners are happening this month. You might remember hearing that the idea for these dinners came from UCLA who has been putting them on for many years to great success. We hope you will sign up for one of the dinners below. The actual addresses will be sent out with your confirmation.

Hosts: Melissa & Jon

Location: Maple Leaf, Seattle
Date: Sat 10/22
Time: 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Our event will be a casual, family friendly dinner as we have a 7-year-old daughter who thinks other children are far more fun than we are.  Weather permitting, we have great outdoor space for the kids and otherwise a rec room where they can watch a movie and/or play with Legos.  We'll serve chips, salsa, guacamole, chopped veggies for appetizers and pulled pork, rice, beans and coleslaw for dinner (all not spicy and vegan except the pork).  We'll likely have Corona and a couple bottles of wine but would appreciate people bringing a beverage of choice if they're particular.  By way of background, I graduated from the Global EMBA program in 2013.  My husband is Australian and we met in East Timor so plenty of interesting decorative discussion items in our house.

Enjoy a quiet lake house setting for the evening. I have a healthy wine cellar, which I will happily share, along with beer options.  Folks can certainly bring their own spirits if beer or wine aren’t their thing.  We are kid friendly and would have a separate menu oriented towards kids. The kids just wouldn’t eat in the dining room and can be piled into the kitchen/kitchenette area. Our daughters Sofia and Sarina are 6 and 4 years old, respectively, and they will be ready to play with new friends in the toy room or brand new sandbox if the weather is nice.

With the theme Art and the Art of Sailing and the setting an artist's loft, come enjoy an evening of creative activities with adult beverages. We will lead our diners through a collaborative art process where each guest is encouraged to participate and all will leave our loft with a matted painting. Combined with stories of our sailing around the world (33,000 ocean miles on our 52' sailboat spending 6 years in the South Pacific), we invite 6 people to join us for a delightful evening meeting new people filled with art, stories and laughter. We'll be serving Butterflied leg of lamb on the BBQ, green salad, and a veggie followed by a dessert, coffee or tea.  We can offer a quinoa side dish if we have a vegetarian or vegan guest. As we live in an artist community/loft, space is limited, please no children.
