Join fellow Columbia alumni for a hands-on morning of community service and connection at OSL Serves (Operation Sack Lunch), a Seattle-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing food insecurity across the city.
OSL Serves prepares and distributes approximately 7,200 scratch-made meals every day to some of Seattle’s most vulnerable populations, including individuals at day centers, residents of tiny home villages, people in shelters and supportive housing, and those experiencing crisis overnight at Harborview Hospital.
During our volunteer shift, Columbia alumni will work side-by-side in OSL’s kitchen, helping prepare meals that will be distributed across the city the very same day.
What volunteers will be doing:
-
Chopping vegetables (e.g., zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower)
-
Assembling components for hot meals
-
Portioning salads and dressings
-
Making sandwiches
-
Packaging meals and food items
-
Assisting with fresh ingredients from OSL’s food-rescue partners
Volunteer Guidelines:
-
Closed-toe, non-slip shoes required
-
Hair tied back if shoulder-length or longer (hairnets provided)
-
Please avoid perfumes or colognes - OSL is a scent-free, nut-free kitchen
Parking:
Free street parking is available throughout the neighborhood. Many volunteers park along 2nd Ave S or on Lucile St (one block away). With nearby businesses typically closed on Saturdays, parking is generally easy. Please allow a few minutes to park and walk over.
